Modernism was both revolutionary and natural. Revolutionary - because it broke with stylistic canons of history and historism and in its use of new technologies. Natural - in its openness to new needs and menas. It resolved problems "from the start" and "with no burden". The fact that it was comprehensive - and it placed an object within context (architecture and urbanism are one) - groundwork and nature, was not revolutionary. It was natural - as all sensible solutions. It was humanistic (as always) and clearly egalitarian. Architecture and its creations - serve everyone. It appeared at the time when new means of transport were introduced - it valued communication - as framework of bigger units. Thanks to modernism, thanks to urbanism and new technologies and materials - it was possible to rebuild and reconstruct cities. It was done with the help of modernism, it served the needs to build in grander scale - and it evolved into "post" - into change - into variety, smaller scale - even into freedom. It is present at the moment - it is being enriched, it is becoming differentiated, it is searching - it is being named in different ways, and in its naturalness - it denominates architecture that constantly evolves. This architecture, and its quality and the need to serve everyone - in greement with ecology and respecting heritage and history, is endangered - by freedom and conformability of mass culture. ...Modernism showed their consequences - and fought with them. That is why it is up-to-date.
