In the paper general principles of motor oil change periods are presented. The author defines the term of oil change point and describes the methods of quality evaluation and the criteria of oil changing. Referring to this, oil monitoring systems used before and today are shown. At the end of the paper the author restates the presented theses together with conclusions including predicted tendencies and areas of development of motor oil monitoring.
