Abstrakty
Artykuł zawiera analizę przydatności aplikacji Open Source do pomiarów sieci IP, które byłyby zgodne z zaleceniami IETF. Analizowane aplikacje odnoszą się wprost do metryk pomiarowych IPPM opisanych we właściwych dokumentach RFC [1, 2, 3], a które są zestawem standardowych metryk mających zastosowanie do określenia jakości, wydajności i niezawodności usług internetowych. Przeprowadzone badania i dyskusja otrzymanych wyników powinna być istotnymi wskazówkami dla właściwej realizacji badań rzeczywistych struktur sieci IP z zachowaniem międzynarodowych standardów.
The paper presents an applicability analysis for the OpenSource application to be used in IP network measurements that should meet the IETF standards. The analysed applications directly refer to the IPPM described in relevant RFC documents which are sets of standard metrics that can be applied to determine quality, efficiency and reliability of Internet services. Presently, at the era of interactive services, such as IP telephony, video conferences, streaming audio and video, when line capacity is no longer essential and broadband access to the Internet has become a standard, it is delays, jitter and packet data loss rate on the way between a sender and a receiver that gain the key importance. It is the reason why this paper concentrates on tools to measure those parameters. IETF documents such as "A One-way Delay Metric for IPPM" [1], "A Round-Trip Delay Metric for IPPM" [3] and "IP Packet Delay Variation Metric for IP Performance Metrics (IPPM)" [2] (RFC 2679, 2681 and 3393) include directions that are necessary to perform reliable measurements. Those documents define metrics that are indispensable at designing the measurement environment and at the same time indicate additional questions that are worth considering, such as: host synchronization or test packet size. The performed tests and discussion of the obtained results should be essential directions for proper realisation of testing real-time IP network structures in accordance with the requirements of international standards.
