The paper describes, from qualitative and quantitative point of view, the forces, power and press work in relation to a same die set, but in different uncoated and TiN coated conditions, used for backward extruding 'Bonderlube' coated a Type 1010 low carbon steel slugs. Predictive approaches for technological performance measures were also included in the study for comparison of results. The findings showed a good agreement between predicted and experimental values. It was determined that the overall benefit of the TiN coated tools when compared to the uncoated tools was in reducing the forces by about 5.7%, and the power and work by about 6.4% due to improved friction at the punch / slug / work piece material interface.
