The construction of water service system, one of the most important infrastructures, is indispensable in the modern countries. As the service time elapses, the water pipeline is subject to gradual corrosion and deterioration. For extending the life span of water main, European countries, US, and Japan, etc. constantly compile budgets to rehabilitate the pipeline to reduce water leakage for improving the safety and stability of the water-supply system. On the other hand, due to the booming development in urban area and people's highly demands in living quality, conventional construction such as open cut may cause serious environmental and traffic impact. As a result, construction with no dig for pipeline renovation seems to become ail unavoidable trend in the future. Cured-in-place lining method, a technology with no dig, has already been developed for decades. This method is extensively applied to the pipeline renovation for the transport of drinking water, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, petroleum, and natural gas. It becomes a quite mature and reliable technique that can be a major substituting scheme for the slip-lining method. Taiwan Water Corporation and Taipei Water Department adopted this method to renovate water main of medium and large size in recent years. Preliminary experiences accumulated by, relevant works prove that this method is suitably applied to water pipeline renovation in Taiwan. Water departments plan to continue adopting this method to renovate water pipelines in the future. In order to promote the reliability of cured-in-place pipelining to avoid any mistake when performing this technique thereafter, this paper collects and analyses the causes that may result in the failure of cured-in-place pipelining. The authors gathered and discussed relevant factors including design, materials (i.e. liner and epoxy resin), and installation (i.e. machines and installation procedures), etc. To point out the possible cause resulting in failure. They proposed a concrete strategy for reference to prevent failure for future renovation design and installation of water main.
