The state of historical wooden architecture in Poland

Abstrakty
The article was based upon an expert report prepared by the Committee of Land and Water Engineering at the Polish Academy of Science, entitled Historical Wooden Architecture in Poland - Technical State, Threats and Protection. Regional teams distinguished among the Section of Wooden Constructions in the Committee of Land and Water Engineering at the Polish Academy of Sciences conducted a survey of 377 historical wooden objects situated in the following voivodeships: Sub-Carpathian, Little Poland, Silesia, Opole, Podlasie, Mazovia, Lower Silesia, Warmia-Mazuria, Western Pomerania and Kujawy-Pomerania. The studies demonstrated that among the 143 examined sacral objects 12,8% are in very good condition, 45,6% are in adequate condition, and 16,8% are in poor condition. Out of a total of 150 examples of residential architecture 3,8% of the objects are in very good condition, 20% are in good condition, 30% are in satisfactory condition, and 46% are in poor condition. In the case of the remaining objects 9,6% of a total of 84 buildings are in extremely good condition, 19,3% are in good condition, 20,1% are in adequate condition, and 51% are in poor condition. The ensuing analysis concerned the reasons for the poor technical condition of certain objects and the occurring threats. Subsequently, the author presented the main trends of protective undertakings making it possible to reduce the losses caused by biological corrosion, fire, burglary and theft.
