Ornament, element kontrowersyjny na początku XX wieku, jest obecny we współczesnej architekturze, zmieniła się jednak jego natura. Stosuje nietradycyjne środki i realizuje inne cele. Jednym z najistotniejszych celów współczesnej ornamentyki jest wzbogacanie wyrazu plastycznego form, przyciąganie uwagi, wywieranie wrażenia na obserwatorze. Rozwój nowych technologii umożliwił eksperymenty z różnymi strukturami i materiałami. Odkryto nowe źródła inspiracji ornamentyki w architekturze - fraktale, efekt moire, malarstwo współczesne (Warhol, Mondrian), komiks, alfabet Morsa, alfabet Brailla, węzeł Bolle'a, proste formy i przedmioty: okno arabskie, koronka, opona itp.

Ornament - a controversial element at the beginning of XXth century is still present in contemporary architecture, however, its, nature has been changed. It uses non-traditional means and realizes different aims. One of the most important aim of contemporary ornamentation is embellishing forms, making the more attractive, impressing the observer. The development of new technology gives the possibility of experiments with variety of structures and materials. New sources of inspiration in architectural ornamentation have been discovered - fractals, moiré effect, contemporary painting (Warhol, Mondrian), comic strip, graffiti, Morse's alphabet, Braille's alphabet, Bollean knot, simple forms and objects: Arabian window, lace, tyre etc.
