W artykule podjęto temat badań sejsmicznych w określaniu zagrożeń powierzchni w rejonach starej działalności górniczej. Autor ilustruje je na przykładzie licznych badań obszaru górniczego kopalni "Katowice-Kleofas" w Katowicach, zlokalizowanych w miejscach występowania starych, płytkich wyrobisk górniczych, stanowiących zagrożenie dla powierzchni. Celem tych badań była ocena własności skał poniżej stropu karbonu i określenie ciągłości powierzchni stropu karbonu oraz zagrożeń powierzchni.

Undertaken in the article is the problem of seismic investigations conducted to determine the hazards pertaining to the land surface in the areas of abandoned mining operation. These are illustrated by way of example of numerous investigation tasks performed in the mining area of "Katowice-Kleofas" Colliery in Katowice located in the places of occurrence of abandoned shallow underground mine workings that present a hazard to the surface. It has been the objective of those investigation tasks to assess the properties of rocks occurring below the roof of the Carboniferous system's strata and to determine the continuity of the Carboniferous strata roof surface, as well as the hazards presented to the land surface.
