On the base of technical documentation physical model driving system of the railway vehicle was elaborated and it was digitized by rigid element method (REM) and finite element method (FEM). The elaborated mathematical model of driving system enables to model torsional vibration. In the article the mathematical modelling subjects of drive system of wheel sets driven by series-connected direct current (DC) motor will be presented. The sets of mathematical equations described dynamical behaviour of series-connected DC motor and coupled drive system of wheel sets will be formulated and shown. Formulated mathematical models of DC motor and drive system of wheel set in Matlab/Simulink in graphical form ware implemented.
