Artykuł stanowi próbę oceny dotychczasowych badań kredy jeziornej ze złoża węgla brunatnego w Bełchatowie. Na po stawie dokonań innych autorów przedstawiono stan wiedzy na temat geologicznych warunków zalegania kredy jeziornej i jejwieku oraz genezy, litologii, charakteru petrograficznego, składu mineralnego i chemicznego. Nie pominięto także problemi związanych z eksploatacją tej kopaliny oraz zagospodarowaniem. Przeanalizowano też dokonania w zakresie rozpoznania właściwości surowcowych i związanymi z tym realnymi kierunkami utylizacji.

The paper is an attempt to assess existing studies of lake chalk from lignite deposit in Bełchatów. Presented state of kna ledge about geological deposition conditions, age and genesis, lithology, petrography, mineral and chemical composition this material is based on the achievements of other authors. In this article authors also did not avoid description of a problei connected with the exploitation of this mineral and its development. Analysis ofproperties and possible directions of utilizati of this material also have been done.
