Przedstawiono budowę geologiczną złoża margli kredowych "Folwark" zlokalizowanego w obrębie kredowej niecki opolskiej. Scharakteryzowano także utwory występujące w niecce opolskiej, a w szczególności osady kredy górnej. Omówiono litostratygrafię, tektonikę, warunki hydrogeologiczne oraz jakość kopaliny złoża Folwark.

Deposits "Folwark" of cretaceous marls is located within the limits of limy-marly formations the so called cretaceous Opole trough, so within the area that is characterized by the presence of minearl which parameters are very useful for the cement industry. Basin of upper cretaceous Opole syncline is located in the utmost eastern part of Wesfal - Sudeten region. The so called "cretaceous Opole syncline" as a geologic unit, boarders from the south - east with the anticlinorium of Upper Silesia, from north and northern - west with the monocline and before Sudeten block, from the west with the crystalline massif of Strzelin, from the south with the east - Sudeten methamographic formations and culm formations. The borders of the basin are approximately marked out by such places as: Opole, Brzeg, Nysa and Koźle. Formations of upper cretaceous are represented by the sediments of Cenoman (pudding stones, sandstones), Turonian (silty marls, marls, and marly limestones) and Cognac (silty marls and marly silts). Formations of upper cretaceous are characterised by relatively little facial variability and slight lithological differentiation. For the practical reasons, particulary for the reasons of evidence of resources for the production of cement, in the area Opole trough, lithostratigraphic profile has been used, taht has been constructed on the basis of tracer analyses of chemical parameters, particularly percentage contents of Cao. On the basis of this differentation, seven lithostratygraphic zones have been separated in the profile of upper cretaceous of Opole basin. Deposit "Folwark" of Cretaceous marls that covers the area of 436,8 ha, has been specified by the means of 56 drill - holes the localization of which has been presented in drawing 19. Thickness of strata of the deposit changes within the range 22,5 to 109,8 m, whereas geological resources are estimated to be over 600 mln. of tons. A mine of chalk marls Folwark is a single deposits strip mine, the type of which is deep-seated. It has been located in the southern-eastern part of deposit. Exploitation is conducted by the cut - and - cover method within the limits of lithostrathigraphic series 6 and 5 and partly in series 4, on two levels and comparises the area of about 100 ha.
