Siarczany znajdujące się w skałach i wodach utworów karbonu zachodniej części kopalni "Marcel" pochodzą z ewaporatów lub minerałów siarczanowych okresu trzeciorzędu. Przedostały się one do karbonu z wodami. W wyniku przeobrażenia składu chemicznego wód będącego efektem desulfatuzacji oraz mieszania nastąpiła cementacja skał kalcytem i krystalizacja barytem. Osady te powstały po ostatniej transgresji morskiej w trzeciorzędzie.
Sulphates in rocks and mine waters of the western part of the Marcel Coal Mine originate from evaporates and mineral deposits (gypsum or anhydrite) of the Tertiary formation. Sulphates flowed into the Carboniferous formation with waters. The changes of chemical composition of waters are caused by the desuphatation process and precipitation of calcite in the rocks at the level 200 . during the mixing process of waters containing sulphates and barium the crystallization of barite took place. The deposits were created after the last marine transgression in the tertiary.Sulphates of the western part of the Marcel Coal Mine will remain in water resources until the coal resources are run cut.Studies of isotope data in sulphates are very important tool in recognition of age of the processes between the rocks and waters of the Carboniferous formation in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin.
