Raindrop charge transport to the earth surface during thunderdtorm precipitations
The ground-based measurements of electric charge on the raindrops (or other precipitation particles) that was brought to the earth surface during thunderstorm were carried out in Warsaw intense thunderstorms and showers in summer of 1996 and 1997. The examination of the obtained data, together with the data from simultatenous measurements of the electric field and maxwell current (total and convective comopnent), allowed to recognize two different types of obserwed storms. One of them was characterized by dominat negative raindrop charge transport with the density of the order of (-0.3ą 0.95)(mikro)C/mkw. And the other was connected tith the majority of positive raindrop charge transport of the order of (0.65ą0.63)(mikro)C/mkw. Oder characteritic electric paremeters used to describe those rainfalls are presented. In spite of various difficulties discussed, ground based measurements of the electrical propertiesof thyndercloud precipitation seem to be able to bring some valuable information concerning electrical structure and electrification processes acting in the observed cloud and below it.
