The paper analyses the long-term variability of precipitation in Kraków and establishes precipitation trends in relation to circulation patterns. Data for annual, semi-annual, seasonal and monthly precipitation totals from the 1850-1997 period was used. Averages, maxima, minima, standard deviations and variability coefficients were presented. Correlation coefficient values were calculated between the precipitation totals and the cyclonicity indices C, determined on the basis of the classification of circulation types proposed by T. Niedźwiedź for the period 1874-1995. The annual precipitation totals did not show any trend. Precipitation variability is characterised by regular fluctuations. In the entire data series it is only in January and July that the precipitation displays any significant trends, which are rising and falling, respectively. The precipitation variability in Kraków shows significant correlation with the fluctuations of the C-index and this correlation was most pronounced in the cold half-year (November-April) and in October.
