Artykuł powstał na podstawie doświadczeń autora oraz w wyniku udziału w II Światowej Konferencji dotyczącej badań in-situ International Conference on Site Characterization, ISC-2 zorganizowanej przez International Society For Soil Mechanics And Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) TC-16 in-situ testing, Uniwersytet Porto (FEUP), International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM), International Association Engineering Geology (IAEG), Geo-Institute the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Portuguese Association of Engineers (OE) ), i British Council (BC), która odbyła się we wrześniu 2004 roku w Porto w dniach 19-22 września 2004. Przedstawiono nowe metody badań geotechnicznych zaprezentowane na konferencji ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem sondowań CPTU.
