We wrześniu Kraków będzie gościł XVII Spotkanie Szefów Urzędów Górniczych Krajów Europejskich. Spotkania te zainicjowano w 1995 r., w trakcie obchodów 40-lecia uchwalenia prawa górniczego w Czechach, choć podwaliny pod ich zinstytucjonalizowanie położyła wcześniejsza (od 1990 r.) bilateralna współpraca Austrii, czech, Niemiec i Polski. Inicjatywę zgłoszoną w Republice Czeskiej podchwycił Prezes Wyższego Urzędu Górniczego, podejmując się zorganizowania II Spotkania w Polsce. W kolejnych latach gospodarzami było szereg krajów europejskich (vide: tabela) – głównie z Europy Środkowej. Każde ze spotkań miało merytoryczny charakter i ściśle sprecyzowany temat (tabela), podejmujący najbardziej palące problemy nadzoru górniczego, i kończyło się podpisaniem przez przewodniczących delegacji formalnego memorandum. Idea spotkań narodziła się spontanicznie, z potrzeby służenia wspólnemu celowi urzędów górniczych, jakim jest efektywna eksploatacja złóż kopalin, przy maksymalnej ochronie życia i zdrowia górników oraz środowiska.

In September, Kraków will host the 17th Meeting of European Heads of State Mining Authorities. The meetings were initiated in 1995 during the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of promulgating the mining law in the Czech Republic, although the foundations for formalising them were laid by the earlier (since 1990) multilateral collaboration among Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. The initiative voiced in the Czech Republic was followed up by the President of the State Mining Authority by undertaking to organise the 2nd meeting in Poland. In the next years, the meetings were hosted by various European countries (see the table), primarily from Central Europe. Each meeting concerned professional matters only and had a very exact theme (see the table) that raised the most urgent problems of mining supervision, ending in signing a formal memorandum by chairpersons of the delegations. The idea of the meeting emerged spontaneously out of the need to serve the common objective of mining authorities which is the effective mining of minerał deposits and maximum protection of health and life of the miners and the environment.
