W referacie przedstawiono ważniejsze założenia techniczne przyjęte przed rozpoczęciem prac modernizacyjnych, dotychczasowy zakres prac i zamierzenia na przyszłość.

In this paper there was represented the range of modernization works performed on SM 42 locomotive, which include among other things replacing the existing diesel motor by up-to-date MTU one. There will be connected alternator which forms a whole with positive booster and exciter to the motor. The substantial matter is the application of two electronics regulators separate for motor and generator. There was shown the possibility of futher appoiting the next motor's renovation time resulting from appreciation of wear and tear of motor elements by its regulator.
