The core of the planar mechanisms structural synthesis is constituted by the principle whereby every mechanism of any structure can be created by adding to the base and driving link(s) or to yet another already existing mechanism of a lower class, the kinematic chain with a zero degree of freedom (0-DOF) (Assur groups). This principle is generalized covering the mechanisms of all groups. The structural synthesis of 0-DOF kinematic chains is carried out in three stages: - the kinematic chains consisting of binary links (exclusively) are determined, - the synthesis of kinematic chains of zero group is performed with the use of two methods, - the synthesis of kinematic chains is performed for the remaining groups. Numerous examples are presented to illustrate the procedure.
