In paper describes a development of speed models. In the first part of the paper, the authors have formulated the main research problems and presented examples of models for estimating speed in built-up areas. General and local speed limits were taken into account in the speed models. In such conditions traffic flow speed is determined not only by its traffic volume, but also by qualitative characteristics of road and street sections. The regression speed models presented in the paper do not have a universal character, but they identify set of main factors affecting the choice of speed by drivers at general or posted speed limits.

W artykule prezentowane są regresyjne modele predykcji prędkości w potokach ruchu na odcinkach ulic oraz dróg zlokalizowanych na terenach zabudowy. Modele te zostały opracowane na podstawie własnych badań empirycznych. W ich wyniku stwierdzono, że prędkość potoków ruchu determinowana jest nie tylko przez ich natężenie, ale także przez charakterystyki geometryczne przekroju poprzecznego oraz formy zagospodarowania otoczenia dróg i ulic. Cechy te opisywane są przez zmienne jakościowe i skalarne. W artykule analizowany jest także wpływ formalnych ograniczeń prędkości na zależności zachodzące w potokach ruchu.
