The optical-electron scanning technique is developed to study thermal processes in a high-speed friction contact. Temperature fields both over the friction surface and in depth of rubbing bodies are measured. Surface asperities in contact are found to undergo the pulse effect of the temperature approaching the melting point of one of the mated materials.
