The city of Klamath Falls has over 500 geothermal wells used mainly for space heating. These wells vary in depth from 15 to 550 m and have temperatures ranging from 38 to 103°C. The installed capacity of the various systems is 86 MWt with an annual energy use of 210 TJ. The geothermal resource is utilized either through downhole heat exchangers or by pumping and passing through aboveground heat exchangers. Most of the downhole exchanger systems are used by individual residences or a group of residences, where as the pumped systems are used by the city district heating system, the Oregon Institute of Technology heating system and the local hospital heating system. Other uses include a creamery, apartment houses, swimming pools, schools and for snow melting. All used fluid in required to be injected.
