The present paper discusses some issues relating to the use of transpedicular spinal fixators. The authors evaluated the pull-out strenght of transpedicular screw in the vertebrae with respect to geometrical parameters of the transpedicular screw. The analyses were carried out on cadaver lumbar and thoracic vertebrae. All biomechanical tests used a material testing machine (MTS 858 MiniBionix). The results of the study demonstrate significance of geometrical parametrs of transpedicular screws for the durability of the screw-vertebra interface. The obtained results also confirm that diameters of the screw and pedicle must be carefully matched in order to ensure good performance of the vertebra and pedicle screw unit.
