According to the assumptions of Agenda 21 humanitarian education became a part of canon of actions, with the purpose of spreading the sustainable development principles. Simultaneously in the early 1990's, the current of active education towards "pro" attitudes (e.g., pro-social, proecological, prosumptional) came into being. With these two pre-conditions playgrounds for children begun to be created, both in highly urbanized and recreational areas. The two had, and have nowadays, the task of education, including ecological education using the knowledge about sustainable development for even very young children. On the other hand, creating such places in the spirit of sustainable development allowed us to perceive the needs not only of preschoolers, but also some more specific groups of non-adolescents, like school kids or animals with their owners. Such places became determinants of space quality, and what is more, designing them became a form of ennoblement. This induced the most ranked designers to cope with the problem and to design functional and special equipment for children to play with. Some of them just entered the world's design history, like organically formed bench by Zaha Hadid or earlier Playground Sculpture by Herb Goldman or even wicker houses by Patrick Dougherty. In this way, small masterpieces of architecture for children were created, which not only bring joy buy also teach. At the same time a new trend for designing "from nothing" was set. This is "organic" architecture, not only by its form, but also by using stone, wood, branches or straw, which are accessible and becomes part of natural landscape. The review of some specific realizations enabled us to estimate whether this attitude is justified or is only an extravagance in the aspiration for being "ecological" and "sustainable" in all parts of human life. The question is whether the willingness of creating unique architecture for the youngest recipients is only a way to achieve popularity or is the real need for creating and improving the work of human mind.
