The idea of sustainable development of man's living environment is postulational, and it seems to be one of the scientific myths based on a falsified representation of reality. There are two fundamental trends in defining sustainable development of housing environment in relation to the concept of a man as homo sociologicus or homo socius. Ideas from the first trend focus on the searching for the socalled objective parameters of a reality and on a generating the final state of habitat as a target model that is a, the sustainable habitat of homo sociologicus. To prevent the uncontrolled process of instability and destruction, some norms and standards are created, which consequently, leads to commercialization of the housing architecture. Ideas stemming from the second trend define habitat as a vivid and open system. In the chaotic habitat of homo socius, the state of the impermanent stability of the environment is supported by the democratic procedures and participation of the inhabitants in searching for methods of the best adaptation of a human being to the changing external conditions. Chaotic habitat of homo socius allows for the maintenance of different forms of man's expressions and for the differentiation of architectural forms in built-environment.
