Abstrakty

EN

The quality of an urbanized environment is a multiplanar issue, which takes on various scales and degrees of importance. A safe space is a feature of a healthy environment, conducive to the good quality of life. Research on the of quality assessment aims at defining factors and elements that influence it, also from the viewpoint of the safety of outside space and buildings. The author's proposition of assessing the quality of an environment allows for physical health, the psychical and mental frame of mind as well as the feeling of social cohesion. It takes measurable rates, elements and factors with varying intensity and form into consideration. Three kinds of assessment arc suggested: through harmony with a rate, the presence or lack of an element and point assessment of factors that are difficult to measure. It appears that the feeling of safety is the result of a number of factors, solutions and situations. Every attempt to guarantee it by means of using fences and video cameras, or eliminating green areas as potentially dangerous places, etc., is a mistake. There is a number of spatial tools which, being conducive to safely, simultaneously improve the quality of a space.
