W niniejszej pracy został zarysowany program edukacji na kierunku geodezji i kartografii w wersji odpowiadającej współczesnym wyzwaniom, została przedyskutowana i zaproponowana nowa nazwa dla tego kierunku . geomatyka. Autor proponuje, aby w ramach projektowanego kierunku geomatyka funkcjonowały dwie specjalno.ci: m Uzyskiwanie danych i technologia systemów informacji przestrzennej, m Analizy przestrzenne i zastosowania geomatyki. Utworzenie specjalności i kierunku geomatyka wychodzi naprzeciw pilnym potrzebom wynikającym z uwarunkowań prawnych naszego kraju, jako członka Unii Europejskiej, wynika z konieczno.ci integracji naszej edukacji z edukacją europejską, z ukierunkowania kształcenia na uniwersalność i współczesne wyzwania społeczne i gospodarcze.

The present time sets many challenges ; social, economic and technological for the information circulation on real space. The existing state of education in the field of geodesy and cartography at technical universities cannot meet these challenges. There is an urgent need to modernize the education in the field of information circulation on real space. In the present work, a new form of education program for Geodesy and Cartography is outlined in the version corresponding to the contemporary challenges and a new name has been discussed and proposed for this program . Geomatics. The author also proposed a two-step procedure of modernization. In the first stage, one should immediately lead to creation of specialization, in the second stage, to undertake intensive efforts towards creation of Geomatics program. Such a procedure has been applied at the Faculty of Mining, Surveying and Environmental Engineering at AGH University of Science and Technology. The relevant, detailed documents have been prepared for creation of Geomatics specialization, the proposal was approved at the Department level and is awaiting approval at the University level. The author proposes two specializations as a part of proposed Geomatics program: m Data acquisition and spatial information system technology, m Spatial Analyses and Geomatics applications. The new program on Geomatics contains a lot of modern methods from information technology, but the education should keep universal character and also include some engineering subjects such as industrial measurements, realization measurements and cadastral measurements. Universal education creates a better chance for graduates to obtain employment in the domestic market and abroad. With the modernization of educational content the methodology of education should be also upgraded. In the second part of the paper, the author presents several proposals and pays particular attention to teaching important features of creativity. Creation of Geomatics specialization responds to urgent needs arising from legal conditions of our country, as a member of the European Union, to the need to integrate our education with the European education focusing on the versatility and contemporary social and economic challenges.
