In the paper, selected questions of strategic controlling are presented, concerning both strategic planning and control. In this context, the role and meaning of a system of early warning as one of the fundamental elements of controlling and of strategic control in a business are discussed. The role of signallers and the meaning of warning signals are presented. The Author proves the importance of functioning of a system of early warning in every circumstance of economic activity, and points out its increasing meaning in the context of the EU accession.
