Place wrocławskie są elementem krystalizującym i organizującym przestrzeń miasta. Nieliczne stanowią wielką księgę czasu i historii; ich korzenie sięgają średniowiecza. Do analiz wybrano place: Katedralny, usytuowany w najstarszej części miasta - Ostrowie Tumskim, Uniwersytecki i Rynek. Ponadto wybrano także plac Powstańców Warszawskich na Sępolnie, położony skrajnie od śródmieścia.

The selected public squares in Wroclaw, such as: Plac Katedralny (Cathedral Square), Plac Uniwersytecki (University Square), Rynek (the Town Square), and Powstańców Śląskich (Silesian Isurgents) in Sępolno, are very important functional and compositional elements in the physiognomy of the city. Plac Katedralny fulfils the role of a religious cult. The Town Square, as the main urbanistic interior of the city, is characterized by different functions, e.g. culture and amusement, tourism, but above all representative functions (public gatherings). Plac Uniwersytecki plays the function of integrating many scientific institutions, due to its localization in the area of the University of Wroclaw. Plac Powstańców Warszawy (the Warsaw Insurgents Square) is a recreation area with the function of relaxation - in a closed off macro-interior. These public squares organize and crystallize the space of Wrocław. They are its visiting card.
