Od lat 90. XX w. powstają w Holandii na dużą skalę realizacje określane jako niemodernistyczne [3]. Szybki rozwój i rosnące znaczenie tego nurtu w kształtowaniu śro-dowiska przestrzennego stanowią paradoks w kraju uznawanym za ośrodek awangardowej myśli architektonicznej. Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest zjawisko "nowego tradycjonalizmu" w Holandii, w kontekście zarówno specyfiki lokalnej, jak i ogólnoświatowego nurtu nowego urbanizmu oraz prezentacja przykładowych realizacji z dziedziny architektury mieszkaniowej. Pomimo niewątpliwej dominacji modernizmu w architekturze Niderlandów w XX w., a zwłaszcza w okresie powojennym, tradycjonalizm w Holandii nie jest zjawiskiem egzotycznym. Już w pierwszych dekadach XX w. rozwinęła się "ceglana" Szkoła Amsterdamska, w której przenikały się tendencje ekspresjonistyczne, modernistyczne, tradycjonalistyczne i secesyjne. Jej przedstawiciele, stojący w opozycji do awangardowego nurtu kojarzonego z rotterdamskim De Stijl, oskarżani byli w sporach ideowych o niedostateczną nowoczesność. Rozważania czy realizacje holenderskie stanowią zapowiedź europejskiej ekspansji nowego urbanizmu, zaliczają się do sfery prognoz. Można stwierdzić natomiast, że niderlandzki pluralizm i pozbawione uprzedzeń podejście do organizacji przestrzeni mogą być wzorem do naśladowania dla Europy - zgodnie z tezą Leona Kriera, że architektura powinna stanowić wybór, nie - przeznaczenie .

In the new housing complexes of Holland since the nineties of the 20,h century there may be observed an intensification of neo-traditional inclination in shaping of the urban and architectonic form, determining an alternative to the generalized neo-modernistic trend. The increase in meaning of traditionalism has been composed of elements of architectonic, historic and market nature. The genesis of contemporary Dutch traditionalism is bound with historic trends of Holland's architecture in the 20lh century - the Amsterdam School and the Delft School as well as the contemporary worldwide movement of the new urbanism. The mass building action bound with the government housing programme ViNEx, based on market principles, created the need for pluralism and breaking of the monopoly of neo-modernism in housing architecture. Market investigations point to a high interest in architecture maintained in the neo-traditional spirit, due to a strong spatial identification and seeking of local values. The most important ideological approach and interpretation of traditional elements in the new architecture are discussed in the article, beginning from the fun architecture (Winy Mass), through the search for form through geometric transformations of traditional form (SLA bureau), contemporary interpretation of traditional town-planning of Sjoerd Soeters, to the conservatism of Rob Krier. The paper presents examples of new complexes in environments of a differentiated characterization - urban centres (de Resident complex in The Hague), small towns (Brandevoort) and open landscape (Haverleij).
