Abstrakty

Krytycznym momentem powojennego rozwoju europejskich miast był upadek przemysłu w 1980 i 1990. Ten proces był bardzo widoczny w Wielkiej Brytanii, gdzie oprócz kryzysu gospodarczego i pogorszenia środowiska w miastach miała miejsce destrukcja procesów społecznych Najbardziej interesujące są jednak sposoby zwalczania tych wszystkich problemów miejskich, opracowane przez brytyjski rząd w ostatnich latach i o gólnie o nazwie "rewitalizacji". Dokument ten definiuje siedem głównych cech rewitalizacji obszarów miejskich, które były badane w Bradford City (West Yorkshire). Trudno jest ocenić skuteczność brytyjskich programów odnowy obszarów miejskich ze względu na długoterminowe realizacje. Możliwości zastosowania angielskich metod regeneracji w Polska są uznawane.

The critical moment of the post-war development of European urban areas was the collapse of industry in the 1980's and 1990's. This process was very evident in the United Kingdom, where apart from economic crisis and deterioration of environment in the cities, destructive social processes took place. The most interesting, however, are the ways of tackling all those urban problems, worked out by the British government in the past years and generally named the "urban regeneration". This paper defines seven main features of urban regeneration which were studied in Bradford City (West Yorkshire). It is hard to assess the effectiveness of British urban renewal programmes because of their intended long-term implementation. In the conclusions the potential possibilities of employing English regeneration methods in Poland are considered.
