The ever increasing demands made on the quality of exhaust gas have directed the attention of scientists and engineers to the search for new designs enabling the emission of toxic substances to be reduced to the lowest possible level. Another step in the attempt to meet these demands is to find appropriate fuel additives (reducing substances). It seemed therefore interesting to examine the potentiality for reducing PAH concentrations in the exhaust gas with additives as non-aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g. propane-butane, which should be introduced into commercial fuel as its constituents. The objective of the authors' study was to study such possibility by qualitative and quantitative analysis of the exhaust gas composition, with emphasis on the formation of PAHs during diesel engine running and during combustion of commercial fuel alone or in combination with propane-butane as additives.
