A System of Diagnostic Evaluation of Conveyor Belt Degradation. In surface brown coal mining the change of the transport system from railway to belt conveyor transport is to be mentioned. A conveyor belt is destined to support the mechanically handled material and to transport it along the conveyor. A task of the belt is also the transfer of longitudinal forces indispensable to overcome resistance to motion when the conveyor has no separate driving member. In order to achieve these goals, the belt must be characterized by a suitable longitudinal and transversal strength so as to assure the transfer of forces transmitted by the conveyor drive and carry the loads connected with the conveyor resistance to motion. The belt should be resistant to all kinds of mechanical damages. One of the most important problems is the determination of their damage degree. Therefore, a procedure has been developed, based upon the exploitation investigations, that defines the size and kind of damage of a belt fragment. Thus, not only the degradation degree of different fragments of the same kind of belt in one loop can be compared, but also fragments from different conveyors.
