W pracy opisano odkryte dotąd odmiany alotropowe pierwiastka węgla. Wśród nich można wyróżnić 6 grup tj. grupę diamentu, grafitu, karbinu, fullerenu, n-karbonu i cyklo[n]karbonów. W grupie diamentu występują diament i lonsdaleit, wśród grafitu a-grafitu i b-grafitu oraz różne formy grafitowe takie jak grafitowe whiskersy oraz lamelle grafitowe tworzące substancje grafitopodobne. W rodzinie karbinów można wyróżnić karbin, chaoit i kumuleny węglowe. Fullereny, które odkryto w 1985, worząą rodzinę sferycznych i sferycznopodobnych form węgla. Dwie pozostałe grupy to liniowe i cykliczne karbony. Z literatury wynika, że możliwe jest istnienie wielu odmian alotropowych węgla, szczególnie przy wysokich ciśnieniach i wysokiej temperaturze. W tych warunkach mogą istnieć odmiany diamentu oznaczone symbolami H3, BC8, R8, ST12, SC46, a także diament metaliczny.
Various carbon alloropes and their properties have been discussed in this review paper. Six different groups of elemental carbon includinng diamond, graphite, fullerene, carbyne n-carbon, and cyclo-n-carbon werre presented. In the diamond group there are diamond and lonsdaleite, in the graphite group there are a and b forms as well as whiskers and lamells forming graphite-like forms. Carbynes, chaoite, and cumulenes belong to the carbyne family. Fullerenes, discovered in 1985, from a large family of spherical and sphere-like carbons. The two remaining groups are linear and cyclic carbons. There are other hypothetical allotropic forms of carbon occurring at hihg pressures and temperatures including structure termed H3, BC8, R8, ST12, SC46 and metallic diamond.
