Turów Power Plant, situated in the South-West of Poland, plays a key role in power generation of the region with its 2000MW of installed power. It is the third largest power plant in Poland having 6% of the power installed in the national system. Construction of Turów Power Plant began at the end of the 50's and at the beginning of the 90's, the oldest units in Turów were thirty years old. They would have been shut down forever unless the decision of rehabilitation had been made. This decision was justified by evidenced deposit of coal in the near-by mine, as well as social end economic reasons. Long term contracts for purchase of power and supplies of coal gave good economic basis for rehabilitation of the power plant. Rehabilitation is being carried out by the Consortium of ABB and Foster Wheeler Pyropower. First three units have been working for some time, the fourth one is under rehabilitation and two more will be modernised soon.
