The automated production of series-wound motors also requires an automated procedure that can test the produced motors as fast as the production rate operates. Therefore some model based methods have been developed but the problem is in general the time required for the parameter estimation. The method described is based on a rapid data acquisition time that needs only easy measurable data of one run-up and one run-down phase of the motor which lasts about 5 seconds for small-sized series-wound motors. The diagnosis procedure extracts the inherent information from this data to calculate the characteristic curves and feature values related to the physics of the motor. These values are used to detect and distinguish intact and defect motors of different conditions. The paper describes the developed method of data gathering for the rotational speed of a dynamic process that uses only the electrical signals of the motor and gives a overview of the developed diagnosis method. The procedure is realised with the standard software tool LabVIEW on a PC.
