The paper presents an outline of biography and a brief overview of major achievements of Paul Otlet (1869-1944) - a Belgian lawyer, nestor of information science, bibliographer, founder of documentation as a separate field of science and practice, author of Treatise on Documentation (Traite de documentation), co-founder of a range of international organizations, including the International Institute of Bibliography and the Union of International Associations, originator of the Universal Decimal Classification, activist for international organization of science, internationalist, pacifist, visionary, author and enthusiast of the concept of the Mundaneum - the world center of warless intellectual cooperation.
