The subject of studies in the presented work were disposable polystyrene cups produced from low impact polystyrene (PS). The specific migration of styrene from the cups into 95% (v/v) ethanol as a food simulant was investigated. To determine styrene concentration in ethanol solutions the UV spectrophotometry and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used. Migration tests were run at a constant temperature, over different times and different ratios of material-simulant contact area to the fluid volume. The results obtained are presented on plots and collected in a table. An increase in the styrene concentration in the simulant was observed during the testing time (50 to 700 hours). The styrene concentration after 500 hours time has achieved a constant value. A linear dependence of the styrene concentration in the simulant on the material-simulant contact area to fluid volume ratio in the range of 2.0 to 16.0 dm2-dnr3 was observed.
