Intensive development of the nanotechnology connected with the production of micro- and nanostructures is creating huge possibilities for coming into existence of modern multifunctional products. That kind of materials on the basis of textile carriers can have the wide application thanks to the new properties. Nanoparticles of metal oxides such like e. g. TiO2, ZnO belong to the group of substances demonstrating the bioactivitv, the property of the absorption of the ultraviolet radiation (UV) and abilities to the photooxidization of organic substances. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide micronised or in the form of nanoparticles are applied in cosmetology as substances absorbing the UV radiation. Nanocrystals ofTiO2 have the ability to absorb the ultraviolet radiation getting in the way the energy which can be used for initiation of chemical reactions. Photocatalytic properties of TiO2 depend on its morphology, the size, of particles and the crystallographical form. Elaboration of the new generation functional textile materials with photocatalytic and barrier properties for the UV radiation and microorganisms was a superior purpose of research undertaken by the team of authors. The first stage of research included the elaboration of methodology of the incorporation of TiO2 preparations into the structure of the textile. In examinations, the samples of TiO2 (titanic white) with the determined crystallographical form and the morphology and the nano-TiO2 samples after the modification of the surface with silan binding agents were used. Assessment of obtained microstructures for textile modified with TiO2 preparations was made using the electron scanning micriscope (SEM) JEOL JSM- 35C with resolution 6 nm. Protective properties toward the UV radiation according to the standard EN 13758 -1:2002 using double beam spectrophotometer JASCO 550 and antibacterial activity of elaborated barrier materials were examined. Assessment of the antibacterial and antifungal properties was made for preparations of titanium dioxide and textile materials modified with TiO2.
