Kinetics of nitrous acid oxidation using the ozone-oxygen mixture

The oxidation of nitrous acid using oxygen and ozone-oxygen mixtures was investigated. The reactions were performed in a heterogeneous system in the aqueous solution of nitrous and nitric acids, drawn from an absorption column in a nitric acid plant. Variations of reaction rates depending on the temperature, ozone dose and both the nitrous and nitric acids concentrations were studied. The kinetic models of these processes were established and they were used for the identification of the rate constants and activation energies.
