The results of the research on the use of dissolved air flotation (DAF) with preliminary coagulation, flocculation and oxidation with hydrogen peroxide in the pretreatment of the wastewaters from the meat processing industry have been presented in this paper. The research was carried out on a specially constructed set. Effectively aided pollutant flotation oxygen doses were determined under the conditions of constant saturation pressure of 400 kPa and 20% of the recirculation rate of the pretreated, saturated wastewater. The usability of this method was tested for the after-slaughtering and meat processing wastewaters and intestine processing. As a result, the relation of the basic indicating values reduction was determined as a function of hydrogen peroxide concentration. The use of this compound in doses of: 30.0 - 50.0 gH2O2/m3 of the effluent in the process of enhanced flotation reduced TSS (total suspended solids) and O&G (oil and greases) by more than 90%, whereas COD (chemical oxygen demand) and BOD5 (biological oxygen demand) were reduced by 50 - 70%. Hydrogen peroxide also changed the relation COD(BOD5):N(T):P(T) (N(T) - total nitrogen concentration, P(T) - total phosphorus concentration) significantly. This method may be used in practice in order to increase the effectiveness of the final biological treatment plant by eliminating constant and accidental overloads which occur during intensive meat processing at the stage of wastewater pretreatment.
