Ultraviolet technology is well established in the word industry and allows the production of a wide range of various UV curable solvent-free pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) with interesting performances. Industrial applications of UV curable solvent-free acrylic PSAs (UV-PSAs) have grown tremendously over the last 15 years. The balance between adhesive and cohesive performances within the crosslinked layers is critical for the performance of the UV-PSAs. The combination of ultraviolet and thermal crosslinking enables the manufacturing of self-adhesive products based on solvent-free acrylic PSA films having different adhesion/cohesion properties and offers novel opportunities to develop innovative articles with new unique features. UV radiation is used to induce crosslinking of the acrylic PSA formulations containing photoreactive polymers, prepolymers, diluents and conventional or unsaturated novel photoinitiators. This report describes a new generation of UV curable acrylic PSA containing the dual crosslinking system that uses UV and thermally initiated crosslinking. These solvent-free acrylic PSA are characterized by excellent adhesiveness and cohesiveness.
