Ti-MCM-41 catalyst in environmentally friendly technologies

Four synthesis routes of the preparation of the hexagonal member of the M41S family, Ti-MCM-41, with a one-dimensional pore system were investigated. The syntheses were based on the methods applying mainly: tetraethoxysilane, tetrabutyltitanate, ethanol, water, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and n-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide as template. The best method, which allowed achieving high cristallinity of the product and required smaller amount of materials and energy, was selected. The best sample of Ti-MCM-41 was tested in the liquid phase epoxidation of allyl and methallyl alcohol in methanol as a solvent. This is a new environmentally friendly method of the synthesis of epoxides.
