This paper is a continuation of the paper presented on the SME 2002 and ICEM 2002 conferences. A new concept of a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) with squirrel cage and with an additional excitation by permanent magnets is presented. This new SynRM with additional magnetic excitation, like a common SynRM based on an induction motor construction, is characterised by simple construction of rotor, it ensures an asynchronous starting torque, and additionally due to permanent magnets, it delivers much better synchronous performance. In the second part of paper, the torque-angle characteristics T(s)=f(delta) of the common SynRM and SynRM co-excited by permanent magnets, calculated using finite element analysis method are shown. The calculated waves of the no-load line to ground and no-load line to line voltages induced by permanent magnets in the co-excited SynRM working as a generator are shown as well. These voltage waves are calculated mainly to verify the magnetization status of permanent magnets, which are aluminium cast inside the rotor before magnetization. Than, the calculation results are compared to the presented results of laboratory tests (no-load, load and stall time) performed on the prototype of the new co-excited SynRM. Since the co-excited SynRM has excellent working parameters, it is a subject of number Polish patents (pending).
