The flexibilty of diesel engines

Problematyka poruszona w niniejszej pracy dotyczy przede wszystkim silników wysokoprężnych służących do napędu pojazdów drogowych eksploatowanych obecnie w kraju.
In following thesis, the theoretical basics, concerning the flexibilty of internal combustion engines, are explained. The paper describes, what is the supply field of the torque and how does the torque changes in nonstationary states of engine. Another thing discussed here, is influence of different factors on the torque curve in relation with external characteristics of the engine. The following factors were taken under the consideration: delivery and correction of the injection pump, as well as improvement of filling of engine, by using different kinds of supercharging, taking a turbocharging into a special consideration. Then, different methods of defining the flexibilty of engine in relation with procedure of its operation, and especially in relation with the procedure of preparing the combustion blend and its combustion, were presented. Next, we discussed the flexibility of chosen diesel engines, putting emphasis on engines designed for high-load capacity trucks, because in our opinion, proper flexibilty influences the smoothness of traffic flow on crowded transportation arteries. Flexibilities of engines designed for delivery vans and personal vehicles were described in turn, taking a sudden progress in construction of the latter into consideration. This sudden progress resulted in remarkable improvement in their flexibilty, as well as in economics and environmentally friendliness. Engines designed for agricultural and military vehicles, were not omitted. Basing on the statistical research, we proposed the modernisation of standards defining flexibility of engine, in indirect way, by simulation procedures. The paper includes numerous results of simulation research and specifications of modern highly-flexible diesel engines.
