Analysis of thermal field distribution is one of the diagnostic methods of power transformers. In order to obtain temperature distribution, infrared radiation camera is used. Many defects of transformer are detected using this method. Infrared radiation measurement is simply and wireless way to obtain thermal field distribution, but interpretation of the measurement results is sometimes incorrect. It is caused by some factors, such as infrared emission coefficient, an angle between the camera and infrared radiation emitter, emitter temperature, and distance between the camera and the emitter. The paper presents the influence of the factors on correct interpretation of infrared radiation measurement results. The influence was investigated using some sample of transformer tank. Next, measurements of thermal field distribution on transformers were made to detect defects of transformer. The interpretation of thermal field of transformers considered investigated influence of the factors on correct interpretation.
