W artykule zaprezentowane zostały przykłady przestrzeni publicznych, w których szczególnym elementem są założenia wodne. Ze względu na charakter i funkcję miejsc ogólnie dostępnych kompozycje wodne przybierają różną formę, wywołując różne emocje i zachowania. Ich odpowiednie wyposażenie, wielkość i charakter mają wpływ na kreowanie społecznych zachowań mieszkańców współuczestniczących w życiu danego ośrodka miejskiego. Niekiedy bodźcem dla różnorodnych emocji, doświadczeń i reakcji są w interesujący sposób komponowane założenia wodne.

This article presents examples of public spaces where water layouts make a special element. Considering the character and function of all-access places, water compositions assume various forms arousing emotions and behaviours. In Belfast, Great Britain, Custom House Square was designed in 2005. In the vicinity of Queens Square, some fountains were located to make the place more attractive. In the evenings, with proper light, streams of waster dance to music and make a unique performance for many people. The attractiveness of the square became an incentive for the development of a fast transforming European centre - Belfast. Gardens in Alkazar, Seville are of completely different character. The presence of water is relating to certain cultural values as well as Arab traditions. Water penetrates the interior of a palace complex and its external zone erasing borders between a private and a public space. Another example is a contemporary water composition in the historically shaped market square in a small town named Dorsten situated in the western part of Germany. Water transforms the prestigious place into a space of recreational character. Although it is not a green interior - a square, a park but typically urban - a historical centre, the heart of the town, a fountain turned into a recreational space. It is popular with children who treat water as a playground. Thus, it seems right that the equipment, size and character of a public space have impact on the creation of social behaviour for residents who take part in the life of a given urban centre. Sometimes suitably composed water layouts are a stimulus for various emotions, experiences and reactions.
