The following paper aims to investigate the possibilities of building within the built environment through three steps: in the first one the notion of monument is introduced and discussed, in regard to the concepts of context and place; in the second one the idea of project as modification is introduced and explained and in the final one a description of several possible strategies for building in the built environment is carried out, on the one hand trying to pursue a wider and more objective perspective than the usual meaning of context attributes to it, and on the other hand stressing that the context itself and the monuments are not something fixed but rather depending on the cultural judgment that accompanies the design.

Autorzy artykułu zbadali możliwości wznoszenia nowych budynków w obszarze zabudowanym. Problem rozpatrywany jest w trzech zakresach tematycznych. Po pierwsze wprowadzono pojęcie zabytku architektury w zestawieniu z miejscem i kontekstem. Po drugie objaśniono ideę nowego projektu jako modyfikacji. Po trzecie dokonano analizy kilku strategii konstruowania w środowisku zabudowanym. Celem pracy jest otrzymanie szerszej i bardziej obiektywnej perspektywy niż zwykłe znaczenie kontekstu, który się mu przypisuje. Ponadto autorzy zamierzali podkreślić, że kontekst jako taki oraz zabytki architektury nie są czynnikiem stałym, lecz raczej zależą od kulturowej oceny, jakiej poddany jest projekt.
