A work is an analysis of developing public spaces in general town planning processes. This elaboration presents characteristics of public spaces, their different categories, tendencies and possibilities for development in the contemporary times. The presence of specific structures of public spaces created by people in urban environments are emphasised, these structures are of permanent character and some arrangements are being developed. A dynamic development of towns in the last decades has been connected with a phenomenon of specialization in creating public spaces not only in towns but also in their outskirts. Contemporary towns are traditional in their centres and are grown around by new highly specialised structures in the outskirts. In this way new types of public spaces are created, they are connected with shopping and services centres, recreation centres, technology, office and science parks. In the situation of numerous dangers to traditional urban arrangements as well as an uncontrolled development of new structures, there is a need for conducting research, analyses, comparisons of the existing state and a need for making models for transformations, patterns of public space arrangements.
