Każdy region przez wieki wykształcał specyficzne dla siebie cechy budownictwa wynikające z tradycji życia, czynników historycznych i przyrodniczych. W latach PRL-u nastąpiła totalna unifikacja. Wszędzie powstawały domy o takim samym wyglądzie. Proces ten przerwał pewną ciągłość kulturową, a z powstałego wówczas chaosu trudno wydobyć dobre wzorce, a odrzucić złe.

The author's intention is to present the living conditions and the most pressing needs of various age groups of the disabled as well as to indicate tasks, opportunities and measures architects can take to integrate this group of special care into the society. The UN's resolution proclaiming "The Year of Disabled People - 1981" under the banner of "Full participation and equality" made it an issue of worldwide importance. Likewise, the year 2003 was devoted to disabled people in Europe. Thus, the legal acts in force should ensure the elimination of all kinds of barriers which make disabled people's lives hard. One should, however, emphasize that even perfect knowledge of regulations does not guarantee the desired effects. Proper interpretation of the detailed guidelines and technical standards, according to the principle that it is the disabled person who is the most important in the process, is indispen sable here. It is necessary to perceive a human being in their entirety with all their needs I resulting from the type and degree of disability and mental disposition. I
