Highly charged aerosol particles are applied in many technological processes such as surface coating and painting, particle separation or industrial gas cleaning. An advantage of charged aerosols is that the motion of the particles can he controlled by electric fields. The efficiency of these processes depends on the charge imparted to the particle. Charged aerosol particles can be generated by using photochargers, tribochargers, radioactive and ionic chargers. Droplets can be charged by induction in the process of atomization or by electrospraying. The paper concerns mainly a device for charging the aerosol particles by ionic current in alternating electric field. The device allows maximization of the charge imparted to the particles and minimization of particle losses in the charger. In this paper the motion of aerosol particles in the electric field is discussed. The paper presents the results of numerical simulation of the charging process and the particle motion in the charger. The visualization of particle motion is also given.
